On August 17th, 2024, an 8-month-old girl choked on a sticker, resulting in a total obstruction. Protocol was followed but was unsuccessful. LifeVac removed the obstruction on its second use. The child’s mother describes the incident as follows:
“My child was turning blue, and this device saved her life. I was playing in the playroom with my toddler and infant. My toddler was playing with 3D puffy stickers and my infant very quickly got a hold of it when I was not watching for a moment to help the toddler open something. She began to make a wheezing sound, so I jerked her up. I could clearly tell that she was beginning to choke. I screamed for my husband to grab the LifeVac and call 911 while I proceeded to do the Heimlich on her until my husband handed me the LifeVac. During this time, she was starting to go limp and turning colors. We used the home kit and only had to do two pumps for it to dislodge the sticker. I was then able to sweep it from her mouth. Paramedics came and checked her out, and she is perfectly fine and healthy. I truly believe that she wouldn’t be here today without the LifeVac.”
